The article presents deconstructive analysis of the concept of war on the example of two texts of Jacques Derrida «Like the Sound of the Sea Deep Within in a Shell: Paul de Man’s War» and «Two words for Joyce». The war presented as a multi-dimensional phenomenon, the sphere of values and interpretation, which is detected not through the general opposition of war and peace, but in opposition war to war. War in Derrida’s thinking embraces not only external aspect of society, but also internal dimension of the person that leading its permanent war for meaningful being and self-understanding. The main reason for war remains division of languages, which is shown in the context of the biblical image of the builders of the Tower of Babel. Particular attention is paid to the notion of war as the war of languages in James Joyce’s novel «Finnegan’s Wake» and beyond.
